Two Tips to Follow When Using a Custom Kitchen Design Service

by Heather Howell

Here are some tips to follow when using a remodelling contractor's custom kitchen design service.

Take your approach to appliance storage into consideration

When you and the contractor start brainstorming, you should consider your preferred approach to storing your small kitchen appliances (like your toaster, kettle, coffee maker, food processor, etc.). If, for example, you have colour-coordinated appliances that you like looking at and which you feel add to the aesthetic you want, then you should ask the contractor to make the benchtops as long as possible and perhaps a bit wider than they normally do. Creating this extra space will allow you to display your attractive kitchen appliances on the benchtops, without having to move them out of the way whenever you want to prep food.

In contrast, if you prefer to keep your benchtops clutter-free, you may need to ensure that the cabinets the contractor builds for you are deep and wide enough for the specific appliances you wish to keep in them. You might also need to discuss the best position for these particular cabinets within the kitchen. For example, you might want to keep the coffee maker in a cabinet that is right beside the sink so you don't have to walk across the kitchen when you want to fill it.

Make sure every area of your kitchen is utilised

It's also vital to ensure that whichever design you and the contractor come up with allows you to utilise your entire kitchen. The reason for this is that you'll probably need lots of storage space, food preparation space and dining space to ensure that you can comfortably use your kitchen.

If, for instance, you don't extend the benchtops so they stretch from wall to wall, you might find that you cannot spread out your ingredients when prepping food and that they end up getting knocked over. Likewise, if you don't bother to have the contractor build shelves and kitchen utensil rails on the walls, you might find yourself with lots of overstuffed drawers and cabinets that you find difficult to organise. Finally, if your kitchen island isn't big enough for you to dine with someone else without your cutlery sliding off it or your glasses getting knocked over, you'll be less likely to enjoy the meals you have in this space. As such, you must ensure that you make the most of every area of the kitchen.

About Me

Replacing your bathroom tiles

We have a bathroom with a really nice layout and structure, but the colour scheme is so dated. I can't believe anyone thought that peach tiles with a floral border was a good idea! I don't have a lot of money, but I want to replace some of the most dated items with more modern bathroom fixtures to create a modern and light-filled bathroom. This blog has tips on remodelling a dated bathroom on a budget and should be useful for anyone who is tired of their peach (or pastel) bathrooms but hasn't been able to afford a full bathroom remodel yet. We've done bathroom remodels a couple times now and hopefully our experiences can help you!
