What Benefits Do Marble Countertops Hold Over Quartz Countertops?

by Heather Howell

Quartz countertops hold many advantages over marble countertops; in fact, their durability and non-porous surfaces certainly make them the more practical choice. However, that isn't to say that marble countertops don't hold more than a few benefits of their own.

Marble countertops might not be able to rival the practicality of quartz countertops, but here are just a few reasons why they are still worthy of your consideration.

Unique Look

Quartz countertop production has come on leaps and bounds, so it doesn't look as bad as it once did. That said, quartz still can't quite match the beauty of marble. Prized since the days of antiquity for its richly-veined sheen, marble countertops bring a timeless sense of style to your kitchen. Additionally, the fact that marble is a natural stone means that no two slabs will ever look alike. Quartz countertops are made in factories, so they tend to look a little unnatural. This will be a particular problem if you go for premium materials across other parts of the kitchen; your quartz countertops might look cheap in contrast.

Heat-Resistance

Heat-resistance is always going to be an important concern when you're dealing with kitchen countertops. After all, you never know when you might need to put down a hot pot or pan. Both marble and quartz are effective at resisting heat, though you still shouldn't place anything particularly hot right onto the surface for extended periods. However, marble remains cool in a way that quartz does not. That makes it nicely cool to the touch, and it's also a real advantage for bakers. If you go into a professional bakeries, you'll probably find marble countertops since it's so easy to work bread, pastry and other baking ingredients across the surface.

Versatility

You might think that a man-made stone like quartz would be easier to work than a natural one like marble, but the opposite is true. That fact that marble is quite soft means that it can be easily cut and reshaped. If you need your countertop made in an unusual shape, thickness, or size, you'll find that marble is easier to create in such configurations than quartz. That improved workability also means that you can add ornate edges with marble, something that adds to its uniquely beautiful visual style.

Despite the fact that marble countertops require more care than quartz ones, they can still be a great option. You'll have to take more care with maintenance work, but you'll also enjoy a stunning stone that remains cool to the touch and can be reworked any way you want it. About Me

Replacing your bathroom tiles

We have a bathroom with a really nice layout and structure, but the colour scheme is so dated. I can't believe anyone thought that peach tiles with a floral border was a good idea! I don't have a lot of money, but I want to replace some of the most dated items with more modern bathroom fixtures to create a modern and light-filled bathroom. This blog has tips on remodelling a dated bathroom on a budget and should be useful for anyone who is tired of their peach (or pastel) bathrooms but hasn't been able to afford a full bathroom remodel yet. We've done bathroom remodels a couple times now and hopefully our experiences can help you!
